The legal framework

Betting in Ireland

GRAI licensing

Since 1 July 2026, online and telephone betting operators serving the Republic of Ireland need the appropriate licence from the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland. An exchange requires a remote betting intermediary licence.

Adults only

Gambling is for people aged 18 and over. Check the current licence and the operator’s terms; a betting licence does not itself verify other products such as casino games.

Phased rules

The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 is being commenced in stages. Check the GRAI for current protections, advertising rules and the status of the planned national exclusion register.

How this site is funded

IrelandBookmakers.com may receive a commission when a reader follows an operator link and then opens an account or places a bet. This is an advertising relationship. We identify licence holders from published disclosures and point you to the GRAI register so you can check independently. A commercial relationship does not guarantee that an operator will have the best price or terms for you.

Only adults aged 18 or over should use betting services. Gamble within your means. For help, visit the GRAI support directory.

Keep gambling in perspective

Set a limit before betting and never stake money needed for essentials. If gambling is causing harm, visit the GRAI support directory for current Irish services. You can also use an operator’s self-exclusion and account limit tools. If you have a dispute, see the GRAI complaints guidance.
